Michigan State Spartans (4-1) vs. No. 21 Connecticut (5-0)
When: Noon Thursday.
Where: Imperial Arena, Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Radio: WJR-AM (760) (Spartans’ radio affiliates).
PREDICTION TIME: Best-, worst-case scenarios for Tom Izzo’s 2021-22 team
Game notes: Michigan State is going for win No. 5, all since losing its opener to Kansas. On Wednesday, opening the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, MSU started hot and then let Loyola Chicago take control. Still, the Spartans did enough late to push past the Ramblers. An alley-oop from Tyson Walker to Marcus Bingham Jr. with less than four seconds left won it for the Spartans. Malik Hall had a career night with 24 points on 9-for-9 shooting and seven rebounds.
No. 21 UConn survived a double-overtime thriller, 115-109, against No. 22 Auburn, in the late game Wednesday at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Adama Sanogo had 30 points and Tyler Polley and RJ Cole each had 24 for the Huskies, who might be a little tired playing after playing 50 minutes.
After the tournament, MSU plays Wednesday vs. Louisville in its ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup. Maryland-Eastern Shore, a MEAC school, is UConn’s next opponent Tuesday.
