Ghaiyyath, winner of the Hurworth Bloodstock Coronation Stakes, the Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International, has been voted Cartier Horse of the Year.
Celebrating three decades of the awards, the 30th Cartier Awards would normally racing’s most glamorous occasion away from the racecourse – an end of season dinner for 300 at The Dorchester. But, during a lockdown, can you get more glamorous than a television supper in front of Sky Racing?
The front-running Ghaiyyath, who was also top Older Horse, never saw another horse until he met Magical in the Irish Champion Stakes for his only defeat of the truncated season.
Accepting the award, Hugh Anderson, Godolphin’s managing director promised the next time Godolphin had a Cartier Horse of the Year, he would bring it to the Dorchester.
